2025 YEAR END APPEAL

Dear Friend of Cetana,

It has been an eventful, and for many, a difficult year. It is easy enough to be
distracted by our problems at home, easy enough to forget that we can still
help others who have never had the power and freedom that Americans have
long taken for granted.

Recently we asked some of Cetana’s Dickason-Young Scholars what your
help means to them:

“For many of us the current crisis in Myanmar means . . . a daily struggle for
basic survival, not just academic achievement. We are challenged not only by
disruptions, lack of resources, and safety concerns, but also the emotional
weight of witnessing our country’s suffering. Our goal isn’t just a degree; it ’s
to gain the knowledge and skills needed to return and help build a future
Myanmar founded on democracy, justice, and the peaceful opportunities that
your support makes possible.”

“[Youth in Myanmar] face economic hardship, safety concerns, and family
responsibilities. Many . . . cannot even afford the costs of scholarship
preparation. . . The financial situation of students in Myanmar is worsening,
which is why more support and opportunities are truly needed.”

“Americans have never failed to protect and contribute to those in need,
regardless of their race, religion, or ethnic backgrounds.”

Hope is active, and these young people have evinced hope in all its forms. In
spite of their country’s challenges, they imagine a better future and a society
more fitting of human dignity. In pursuit of this vision, they have organized,
they have at times resisted, and they have persevered. As Americans, we
understand this noble goal and, traditionally, have provided generous help to
those across the globe who labor to realize it.

Let us remember the courage of this generation of Myanmar youth. As a loyal
Cetana donor, you have responded before with compassion. We ask you to
continue, perhaps even increase, that support. If you have not yet had a
chance to make a gift to Cetana, please consider one now. Because our board
members cover all foundation administrative costs, every dollar of your
support goes directly to this scholarship. Every gift, no matter the size, makes
a difference. It changes lives.

On behalf of the Cetana board and with deep gratitude,
Susan C. Jennings, president
